In 2020, Jamestown Rediscovery archaeologists planned to focus on areas of interest that the team located while conducting ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys in 2019. They investigated previously unexcavated units near the 1607 James Fort’s east bulwark in conjunction with proposed improvements to the concrete seawall. This excavation included looking at an area near the east palisade where a couple of 17th-century drainage ditches converge. Lastly, they continued research on the 1607 Burial Ground and testing related to burials recently excavated in the Jamestown churches.
