In 2020, Jamestown Rediscovery archaeologists plan to focus on areas of interest that the team located while conducting Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys in 2019. They will investigate previously unexcavated units near the 1607 James Fort’s east bulwark, in conjunction with proposed improvements to the concrete seawall. This excavation includes looking at an area near the east palisade where a couple of 17th-century drainage ditches converge. Archaeologists will also open some test units southwest of the Church Tower. Lastly, they are continuing research of the 1607 Burial Ground and testing related to burials recently excavated in the Jamestown churches.
