visit information

National Park Service rangers are at the Visitor Center between 9:00am to 5:00pm to provide brochures, Junior Ranger booklets, and Passport Book stamps.

Restrooms are available at the Visitor Center, the Archaearium, and the Dale House Café, during its operating hours. Hand sanitizing stations are positioned around the site.

Much of the visit experience takes place outdoors, so we recommend dressing comfortably for the weather conditions, which are often hot and humid in the summer. In the event of severe weather, we may need to close the site for safety reasons. Information on closures or other changes to operations will be posted at the top of this page and on our social media channels.

health and safety guidelines

The health and safety of our visitors and staff are of utmost importance. In keeping with relevant guidance from the governor’s office, the Virginia Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • Face Mask Policy
    • Wearing face masks indoors is encouraged. This includes the Visitor Center, Archaearium Museum, and Memorial Church.
    • Wearing of masks is encouraged in outdoor areas of the park where gathering may occur or when individuals cannot maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet from other persons outside of an individual’s household.
  • Please avoid lingering on the footbridge to prevent crowding.
  • Most programs are outdoors. Seating is positioned to facilitate physical distancing.
  • We are doing additional cleaning of high-touch areas, and hand sanitizing stations are available around the site.
  • Signage will alert visitors to any other safety protocols or changes in wayfinding.
