Tour Frequently Asked Questions

Exploring Historic Jamestowne on your own is a great way to see the island, but guided tours offer a way to learn more about the site from one of our many experts. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions to help plan your visit to get the most out of the experience.
What type of tours of Historic Jamestowne are available?
At least one hour-long walking tour is offered daily, weather permitting. These tours may be led by an archaeologist, an education team member, or a National Park Service ranger, and are included with any Historic Jamestowne admission ticket. We also offer—for an additional fee—school tours, custom adult group tours, and specialty tours. To learn more about these programs, please visit our Tours page.
What is the tour schedule?
The schedule for the walking tours varies seasonally. The weekly schedule provides information on some of the upcoming options. Tours may be canceled due to inclement weather.
Can I use my National Park Service pass, Preservation Virginia pass, Four-Site Value ticket, or America's Historic Triangle ticket for entry when participating in a specialty program or tour?
Specialty program tickets do not include general admission. General admission is a separate charge.
What should I do if I did not receive my email receipt?
Occasionally the email receipts may be caught in spam filters. If you do not receive your confirmation, check to see if it might be in your spam folder or send an email with the buyer's name as well as the name and date of the program purchased to hjweb@preservationvirginia.org and we will send a copy. Our Visitor Services staff can also verify ticket purchases upon arrival if you do not have your receipt.
If I live outside of the United States, can I sign up for a Specialty Tour or Evening Program?
Yes! We regret that we are unable to accept purchases online without a United States billing address. However if you will be visiting from abroad and wish to participate in a Specialty Tour or Evening Program that requires a pre-purchased ticket, please send an email to hjweb at preservationvirginia.org with the following information:
  • Name of Tour or Program (James Fort: Lost & Found, Curators' Artifact Tour, Evening Program Name, etc.)
  • Date and Time of Tour or Program
  • Number of Tickets Needed (For daytime programs, please include the number of Adult and Youth tickets desired)

If ticket(s) are available for the selected tour or program, you will receive an email confirmation and further information about how to purchase the ticket(s).
Are specialty tour tickets refundable?
Unfortunately we are unable to issue refunds unless the tour or program is cancelled by the Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation. However if your plans change and we can accommodate you on another specialty tour that is the same price, we will be happy to do so. Please email hjweb@preservationvirginia.org if you have purchased a specialty tour or program ticket and would like to see if it can be transferred to another date.
