Exploring Historic Jamestowne on your own is a great way to see the island, but guided tours offer a way to learn more about the site from one of our many experts. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions to help plan your visit to get the most out of the experience.
What type of tours of Historic Jamestowne are available?
At least one hour-long walking tour is offered daily, weather permitting. Beginning at at the Tercentennial Monument, these tours may be led by an archaeologist, an education team member, or a park ranger, and are included with any Historic Jamestowne admission ticket. We also offer—for an additional fee—school and custom adult group tours as well as two specialty tours: “In the Trenches” and the “Curator's Artifact Tour.”
What is the tour schedule?
The schedule for the walking tours varies seasonally. The weekly schedule provides information on some of the upcoming options, but the times of the park ranger tours are only announced on the day they are held, so please check at the Visitor Center upon arrival for the most current information. The Specialty Tours are usually offered twice a month between the end of the March and the end of October. The “In the Trenches” and “Curator’s Artifact Tour” pages list all of the upcoming tour dates.
How do I reserve a school or custom adult tour for my group?

Do I have to buy a separate Historic Jamestowne admission ticket if I purchase an “In the Trenches" or “Curator’s Artifact Tour" specialty tour ticket?
No, the price of an “In the Trenches" or “Curator’s Artifact Tours" tickets includes a 7-day admission ticket to Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield. Admission tickets can even be redeemed early as long as your specialty tour is within the 7-day window.
How do I redeem my specialty tour tickets and where do the tours begin?
Simply bring your email receipt either in printed form or on an electronic device and present it at the Historic Jamestowne Visitor Center ticket desk. The staff will provide a sticker indicating participation in the tour. Specialty tours begin at the Pocahontas Statue and participants are asked to meet there five minutes before the scheduled start time.
If I live outside of the United States, can I sign up for an “In the Trenches,” “Curator’s Artifact Tour,” or Evening Program?
Yes! We regret that we are unable to accept purchases online without a United States mailing address. However if you will be visiting from abroad and wish to participate in a Specialty Tour or Evening Program that requires a pre-purchased ticket, please send an email to hjweb at with the following information:
  • Type of Tour or Program (“In the Trenches,” “Curator’s Artifact Tour,” or Evening Program Name)
  • Date and Time of Tour or Program
  • Number of Tickets Needed (For tours, please lists the number of Adult and Youth tickets desired)

If ticket(s) are available for the selected tour or program, you will receive an email confirmation and further information about how to purchase the ticket(s).
Are “In the Trenches" and “Curator’s Artifact Tour" tickets refundable?
Unfortunately we are unable to issue refunds unless the tour is cancelled by the Jamestown Rediscovery Foundation. However if your travel plans change and we can accomodate you on another specialty tour, we will be happy to do so. Please email hjweb at if you have purchased an “In the Trenches" and “Curator’s Artifact Tour" ticket and need to see whether it can be transferred to another specialty tour.
