The Arrival of Lord De La Warr
Thomas West, the Lord De La Warr and the new governor of the colony, arrived at Jamestown on June 10, 1610. The colony was on the brink of failure, having barely survived a siege that resulted in the deaths of the majority of its residents. Lord De La Warr instituted martial law, which remained in effect for almost a decade. Join us to explore how this turning point changed the history of Jamestown with a special program featuring Captain Edward Brewster, Captain of Lord De La Warr’s Personal Honor Guard.
Join us on Saturday, June 13, 2026 as we note the 416th anniversary of the arrival of Lord De La Warr through this living history program that will explore the events that lead to one of the darkest times in early Virginia history, the Starving Time winter of 1609-10, and its horrific aftermath.
