Road to Revolution Lecture Series: The Case for Separation

Part 4: “Virginia and Britain, 1763-1781”

Jamestown Public Historian Mark Summers will conclude the lecture series reviewing the influence of the First Assembly, political traditions in 17th-century Virginia, and previous conflicts that lead to separation from Britain in 1776. He will examine how Virginia’s 17th-century concept of liberty will clash with Britain’s 18th-century concepts of liberty.

The Road to Revolution lecture series is a 4-part program that explores how events at Jamestown influenced the founding fathers as they created a new nation, built on the foundation of democracy and rule of law established at Virginia’s first colonial capital.
