Description

On July 30, 1676, Nathaniel Bacon issued a Declaration of the People of Virginia, which accused Governor William Berkeley of corruption and condemned the colonial government’s unjust taxation and failure to protect the people.

Bacon led an armed uprising against the government known as Bacon’s Rebellion, which led to the burning of the Virginia capitol, which was then still at Jamestown, in September of 1676.

This reproduction on antiqued parchment includes the original text from “The Declaration of the People in Virginia against Sir Wm. Berkeley, and Present Governors of Virginia”, as well as explanatory notes on “The Declaration of the People” and Bacon’s Rebellion.

Reproduction print measures approximately 22” wide by 14” long (comes folded in a 9 ½” by 4 ¼” envelope).
