Description

Proposed following the 1787 debate over the ratification of the Constitution, The United States Bill of Rights contains the first ten amendments, written to address the objections raised by Anti-Federalists. During his 1789 inauguration George Washington addressed the subject of amending the Constitution, urging legislators: “whilst you carefully avoid every alteration which might endanger the benefits of an united and effective government, or which ought to await the future lessons of experience; a reverence for the characteristic rights of freemen, and a regard for public harmony, will sufficiently influence your deliberations on the question, how far the former can be impregnably fortified or the latter be safely and advantageously promoted.”

Reproduction print measures approximately 15 ¾” long by 13 ¾” wide (comes folded in a 8 ¾” by 4 ¼” envelope).
