Memento Mori Copper Keychain

$29.00

Description

Preparing for death and an awareness of its inevitability was a preoccupation of 16th and 17th century Christians. Memento mori (“remember thy death”) items served as a reminder to focus not on earthly pleasures or accomplishments but on the afterlife to come.

Ten seal matrices have been found at James Fort, two of which have memento mori motifs.

This solid copper keychain from Shire Post Mint adds a new spin to the historic meaning behind Memento Mori with the addition of Memento Vivere meaning “remember to live” on the reverse, symbolically representing the balance between accepting mortality and embracing life.

  • Copper coin is about 1/2 ounce, or 30 grams of bullion grade pure copper
  • 2.5 cm diameter
  • Stainless steel keyring included

From Shire Post Mint about their process: “Shire Post Mint coins are struck one at a time in West Fork, Arkansas, USA using solid metals, hand-engraved designs, antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. For antiqued coins, the coloring/patina process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science so coins will vary slightly. Our unique packaging includes a description of each coin and translations if applicable.”
