Did you know there are two Jamestown sites to visit?

  • Historic Jamestowne is the original landing site of the English colonists of 1607, and the first permanent English settlement in America. It has been an active archaeological dig site for 30 years, with over 4 million artifacts on display in the Voorhees Archaearium. 22 1/2 acres of land on Jamestown Island is preserved and protected by Jamestown Rediscovery and Preservation Virginia, including the land upon which James Fort sits. Jamestown Rediscovery offers year-round history and archaeology programming for visitors to provide education and understanding of this important site. The remainder of the Island including the Island Loop Drive is cared for by the National Park Service and is part of the Colonial National Historical Park along with the Colonial Parkway and Yorktown Battlefield.
  • Not far away, The Jamestown Settlement offers a living history style interpretation of what life would have been like for the colonists with fabricated English buildings, Native dwellings, ships, and reenactors going about daily chores. Their website is here: https://www.jyfmuseums.org/

If you have any questions about the Jamestown Settlement or their gift shop products, please visit their site or call them directly, as they are operated by a separate organization. Thank you!
