Description

A scissor snuffer piece was excavated in James Fort in a feature dating from 1617 to the mid-18th century. Introduced in the late 15th century, candle snuffers were common household implements because candle wicks had to be regularly trimmed to keep the length of burned wick from falling into the candle and creating a large uncontrolled flame.

The design of this Candle Snuffer is based on a traditional motif and is as decorative as it is functional! Use this pewter-plated brass candle snuffer to extinguish small candle flames. Though visually similar to the Ear Picker found here at Jamestown, there is no historical connection between the two items.
