This surviving parallel to the helmet excavated at Jamestown is composed of a helmet with articulating visor and bevor. A custom fitted complete suit of armor was expensive and only a wealthy few would have been able to outfit themselves with this protection.

Provenance: A late 19^th century photograph in the De Cosson papers in the Royal Armouries archives established that this helmet was in the collection of Rutherfurd Stuyvesant (1843-1909), an American arms and armor scholar. Pieces from the Stuyvesant collection were sold in New York to private collectors in the 1950s through the early 1970s. This helmet was acquired with the generous support of donors to the Merry Outlaw Curatorial and Conservation Fund.
