The Arrival of Lord De La Warr – June 10, 1610

Location: Memorial Church

On June 10, 1610, Thomas West, Lord De La Warr, arrived at Jamestown bringing supplies, re-enforcements, and instructions to declare martial law. His timely arrival saved the settlement from collapse and abandonment, and renewed the Virginia Company’s effort to establish an English foothold in North America.

Join us on Saturday, June 10, 2023 as we note the 413 anniversary of the arrival of Lord De La Warr through several “eye witness” living history programs. These presentations will explore one of the darkest times in early Virginia history, the “Starving Time” winter of 1609-10, offering insight into events that lead to, and the aftermath of, this horrific time.
