Forensic Fridays Tour
Location: Program begins at the Memorial Church
Join a senior forensic archaeologist to take a deeper dive into colonial cold cases being investigated by Jamestown archaeologists. Forensic and genetic analyses have yielded profound insights into the lives of the people who lived and died on Jamestown Island. Skeletal remains encode a lifetime of information, including things like age, sex, status, disease, and place of origin. Ancient DNA analysis can tie the individuals interred at Jamestown with living communities, and highlight connections to European, Native American, and African descendent groups. These studies are instrumental in solving Jamestown’s mysteries, from uncovering evidence of cannibalism to identifying the first English colonists.
Program will begin with a lecture in the Memorial Church, followed by a behind-the-scenes tour of the current excavations (weather permitting) to discuss the forensic cases that have uncovered Jamestown’s history.
