Join public historian Mark Summers as he leads guided tours about Bacon’s Rebellion. This tour will examine the causes of the conflict which tore Virginia apart between 1675-1677. It will seek to discuss the many sides of the conflict, Virginia loyalists, indentured servants and enslaved Africans, Virginia Indians and those who switched sides. See the sites where Nathaniel Bacon confronted the Governor and where Jamestown was burned. Learn of the legacies of the conflict which taught Virginia about the power of rebellion, shaped slavery laws, and led to the first official apology of the English crown to the Virginia Indians.
