Queen’s visit to Jamestown featured in documentary

Suited man walking with Queen

Monarchy, The Royal Family at Work contains an episode featuring Queen Elizabeth II’s state visit to Historic Jamestowne. Previews of this episode are available at http://www.pbs.org/opb/monarchy/.

Promotional copy for the episode provided by PBS describes the episode as “the opportunity to follow the elaborate preparations in Virginia and Britain as the Queen gets ready to visit America. How do American hosts entertain a monarch who has visited nearly every country on earth and dined with 10 U.S. presidents? ‘The State Visit’ follows the elaborate preparation, as four locations get ready for a visit from the Queen. In Jamestown, Virginia, the chief archeologist brushes up on royal etiquette. In Williamsburg, Virginia, nervous hotel staff make sure they prepare Her Majesty’s room to an exacting standard of perfection. For the visit, the White House hosts the first and only white-tie dinner of the administration.”

Elizabeth Kostelny, Executive Director of APVA Preservation Virginia, said, “The Queen’s State Visit to Historic Jamestowne brought worldwide attention to America’s 400th Anniversary commemoration and renewed awareness of the archaeological research that is revealing a new understanding of this nation’s origins at Historic Jamestowne. From the extraordinary preparations to the remarkable execution, this visit underscored the historic ties that our two nations share — beginning right here at Historic Jamestowne.”
