Meet Martha Sizemore, housekeeper to Rev. Alexander Whitaker, in May of 1616 as she offers optimism on the future of the young colony, reflecting on the two years since peace was established with the Powhatan Indians. Prior to that, the kidnapped young Indian princess Pocahontas had been brought as a ward of the colony to the home of Reverend Whitaker, who was given the task of governing her spirituality—ministering to and eventually baptizing her. Martha watched as Pocahontas slowly grew more accepting of English ways, from wearing English clothes, taking the English name “Rebecca” and then marrying the widower John Rolfe. Perhaps Martha will share some of the conversations she overheard….
