Join Jamestown Rediscovery, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, and Let Freedom Ring to learn about Black history on Jamestown Island during the Civil War. New research may reveal the physical sites where escaped enslaved people sought refuge behind Union lines in 1862. Jamestown Rediscovery public historian Mark Summers and Senior Staff Archaeologist and project lead Mary Anna R. Hartley will share the latest research into this exciting initiative and invite community feedback to help illuminate this piece of Jamestown’s hidden history.
