Description

The papers in this publication were originally presented at the seventh symposium on Virginia archaeology, sponsored by the Council of Virginia Archaeologists (COVA), on October 29-30, 1993, in Alexandria, Virginia. The first four symposia in this series, and the resulting volumes, covered the prehistory of the state. The fifth symposium focused on the 17th century, the sixth the 18th century, and the seventh extended to cover through the 19th century.

This symposium’s general theme was to look at Old Dominion in 1800 most notably the economy, architecture, society, and culture, and compare it to what the Commonwealth looked like a century later in 1900.
