Description
The papers in this publication were originally presented at the sixth symposium on Virginia archaeology, sponsored by the Council of Virginia Archaeologists (COVA), on May 22-23, 1992, in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia. The first four symposia in this series, and the resulting volumes, covered the prehistory of the state. The fifth symposium focused on the 17th century, the sixth the 18th century, and the seventh extended to cover through the 19th century.
This volume contains only some of the papers that were presented at the 6th symposium. The topics missing are architecture, ceramics, industry, and landscape. Even with these topics missing, this volume is still a valuable reference for archaeologists, preservationists, planners, and the public.
