position overview

The Dale House Cafe Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring visitors receive exceptional customer at the Dale House Cafe. The main responsibilities of the Supervisor include acting as manager on duty as required, coaching staff, and maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards.

essential functions
  • Serve as manager on duty. MOD responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Opening Dale House by following standard opening procedures
    • Overseeing daily operations at the Dale House and making sure they have the necessary resources for the day
    • Being aware of groups, events, programs, weather, and other situations that may arise and affect the workplace. Maintain flexibility in managing appropriate responses to each as necessary
    • Closing Dale House by following standard closing procedures

  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism while supporting Dale House operations. Duties include:
    • Directing associates through correct procedures for storing resupply
    • Instruct and assist associates with packaging products for sale
    • Create nightly cash deposits
    • Secure all cash according to standard procedures

  • Follow all health and food safety standards and requirements per Virginia code, including but not limited to:
    • Working with Assistant Manager to plan and execute cleaning responsibilities
    • Complying with all health and safety standards pertaining to food and beverage preparation and storage

  • Ensure a positive and memorable experience for visitors through the following:
    • Taking an active role in front-line duties to ensure smooth daily operations
    • Engaging visitors with a welcoming and efficient point-of-sale service that includes detailed attention to all cafe procedures including conducting sales and preparing beverages and food
    • Providing visitors with information on the history of Jamestown, the Dale House, the historical park, our unique public/private partnership, exhibits and artifacts, visitor amenities, and daily tour and program offerings
    • Keeping the cafe displays stocked and organized
    • Resolving customer concerns escalated above the associate level

  • Build a strong team using an entrepreneurial approach and a shared vision of outstanding customer service.
    • Modeling exemplary behavior for Dale House Cafe Associates through action
    • Following training procedures to properly onboard new associates
    • Providing the Assistant Manager and Director with feedback on Associates’ performance

  • Provide support to the Assistant Manager and Director by completing additional tasks as assigned.

job requirements and qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Training requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates): Virginia Food Handler’s Permit; Manager Level Food Handler’s Permit

Knowledge Requirements: The successful candidate will possess excellent skills in verbal communication, a high level of attention to detail and a team-focused sense of initiative. Must be able to positively interact with and provide services to diverse populations and age groups. Prior knowledge of Jamestown Rediscovery, Preservation Virginia, the National Park Service, and Virginia’s Historic Triangle are useful. Dedication to the mission of education and historic preservation is essential.

Experience: Two (2)+ year(s) of food service and/or barista experience preferred. Minimum six(6) months management experience required.

Pay: $17.00/hr

Expected Hours: Part-time, 28hr/week avg.

Business Hours: 9 am – 5 pm Daily; holiday and weekend work is required

Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day
