The Dale House Cafe has been closed for renovations for a little over a year, and we are excited to be getting closer to reopening! Will you be a part of our team, welcoming visitors in to a new chapter of Dale House history?

position overview

The Dale House Cafe Associate provides exceptional customer service to Historic Jamestowne guests at the Dale House Cafe through food and beverage sales, keeping the café stocked and clean, and following proper food handling procedures.

essential functions
  • Engage visitors with a welcoming and efficient point-of-sale service
    • Conducting sales at the register
    • Preparing beverages and food
    • Performing opening and closing duties

  • Ensure a positive and memorable experience for visitors through the following:
    • Keeping the cafe displays stocked and organized
    • Executing cleaning routines set forth by Assistant Manager, Supervisor and Director
    • Complying with all health and food safety standards and regulations pertaining to food and beverage preparation and storage

  • Assist in maintaining inventory accuracy
    • Following established procedures to check in shipments
    • Preparing products for storage or display
    • Performing periodic inventory audits

  • Communicate with visitors and provide information to enrich their visit
    • The history of Jamestown, the Dale House, the historical park, our unique public/private partnership, exhibits and artifacts, visitor amenities, and daily tour and program offerings

    job requirements and qualifications

    Education: High school diploma or GED required.

    Training requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates): Virginia Food Handler’s Permit; Manager Level Food Handler’s Permit

    Knowledge Requirements: The successful candidate will possess excellent skills in verbal communication, a high level of attention to detail and a team-focused sense of initiative. Must be able to positively interact with and provide services to diverse populations and age groups. Prior knowledge of Jamestown Rediscovery, Preservation Virginia, the National Park Service, and Virginia’s Historic Triangle are useful. Dedication to the mission of education and historic preservation is essential.

    Experience: One (1)+ year(s) of food service and/or barista experience preferred.

    Positions Supervised: None

    Pay: $15.00/hr

    Expected Hours: Part-time, 20-28hr avg. per week

    Benefits: Employee discount, 1.5x pay for time worked on recognized holidays, Free visits to PV historic site

    Business Hours: 9 am – 5 pm Daily; holiday and weekend work is required

    Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day
