“At Christmas be mery”: A Special Evening at Historic Jamestowne acbm-2012-4_crop

Location: Program begins at the Historic Jamestowne Visitor Center

You are invited to join Sir Francis Wyatt, Virginia’s newly-arrived Governor in December of 1621, to an early Virginia Christmas celebration complete with costumed interpreters, madrigal singers, a seasonal bonfire and caroling. A unique opportunity to see Jamestown Island aglow with firelight, “At Christmas be mery”: A Special Evening at Historic Jamestowne will be presented on Saturday, December 10, at 5:30pm & 7:30pm. This program will be held rain or shine, so we recommend dressing comfortably for the weather conditions.

Join us for this special program offering insights into early-English Christmas traditions. After a brief introduction to what the Jamestown settlers expected during their Christmastide, the Captain of the Guard will escort the “new arrivals” along a cresset-lit path to the 1618 Church, where they will be welcomed by Governor Wyatt and other dignitaries. Guests will then enjoy a musical performance by Old Dominion University’s Madrigal Singers. Afterwards herald in the season by a bonfire with remembrances of “Yule times” past!

Tickets, which are $25 each, are limited and must be bought online in advance by clicking the button below.
